Choosing the right setting for your newborn or family photo session is one of the most important parts of creating timeless images you’ll treasure for years to come. The Denver and Foothills area offers so many beautiful backdrops—from cozy indoor studios to stunning mountain meadows—each one bringing its own unique mood and personality to your photos.
Whether you’re dreaming of a calm, home-like atmosphere or sweeping mountain views, here are some of my favorite locations for newborn and family photos around Denver, Littleton, Morrison, Conifer, Arvada, and Boulder.
1. The Cottage at Conifer – Cozy, Natural, and Mountain-Inspired
Nestled in the pine trees just west of Denver, The Cottage at Conifer is my personal indoor-outdoor studio space designed specifically for family and newborn photography. It combines the charm of a cozy mountain cottage with the convenience of natural light and thoughtful styling.
Inside, the studio features warm neutral tones, soft textures, and comfortable furnishings that photograph beautifully. There’s also an outdoor area with a rustic lean-to, a meadow, and forested nooks perfect for seasonal sets—whether it’s snow-kissed winter scenes or summer wildflowers.
It’s ideal for:
-
Newborn sessions that feel relaxed and intimate
-
Family sessions with babies or toddlers who need warmth and flexibility
-
Clients who love a natural, “Colorado cottage” aesthetic with warm, organic tones
2. Realm Denver – Bright, Clean, and Editorial
Located in the RiNo district, Realm Denver is a beautiful, light-filled studio with a modern feel. Its minimalist design and bright white walls create a clean backdrop that keeps the focus on your family and baby.
It’s ideal for clients who love a more editorial, modern aesthetic or want a mix of natural light and styled, contemporary looks. I’ve photographed several newborn sessions at Realm, and its versatility makes it easy to create both cozy, snuggly portraits and polished lifestyle imagery.
3. Sunhouse Studio in Arvada – Modern with Warmth
Another favorite option for Denver-area newborn photos is Sunhouse Studio in Arvada. It offers that same bright, minimal aesthetic as Realm and beautiful natural light that shifts softly throughout the day.
Sunhouse is great for families who love simplicity, structure, and light, but still want warmth and personality in their photos. The neutral tones and uncluttered design mean your baby and family’s connection takes center stage.
4. In-Home Sessions – Comfortable and Personal
For many families, there’s nothing more meaningful than photographing your newborn right in your own home. In-home newborn sessions are perfect for capturing your baby in their first environment—the nursery you designed, the couch you’ve spent countless hours cuddling on, the light that filters through your windows in the morning.
Every home tells a story, and these sessions are all about preserving your story—authentically and beautifully.
In-home sessions are ideal for:
-
Families who value comfort and ease
-
Parents who want to include personal details or pets
-
Anyone wanting an unhurried, real-life atmosphere
5. Outdoor Foothill & Meadow Locations – Seasonal and Scenic
From May through September, outdoor sessions around the Denver Foothills, Morrison, Littleton, and Boulder are breathtaking. The weather is mild enough for little ones, and the light is golden and flattering in the evenings.
Some of my favorite outdoor spots include:
-
Mountain meadows in Morrison or Evergreen – soft grasses and stunning foothill views
-
Trailheads near Conifer – quiet, pine-framed spaces perfect for families who love the outdoors
-
Boulder Open Space areas – gorgeous mountain backdrops and rolling hills
Outdoors, babies can be wrapped in soft blankets while parents cuddle close. These sessions feel carefree and connected—especially when timed during the warm, glowing months of late spring through early fall.
(For safety and comfort, I recommend outdoor newborn sessions only between May and September when weather is mild and more predictable.)
Choosing the Right Setting for Your Family
Each family’s story is different—and the right location depends on your personality, style, and comfort. Some parents love the peaceful privacy of The Cottage at Conifer, while others are drawn to the clean, modern feel of Realm Denver or Sunhouse Studio. For those craving connection to nature, the mountain meadows and foothills around Denver and Boulder make a timeless choice.
When you book your session, I’ll help you choose a location that fits your vision perfectly—whether that’s cozy, refined, or adventurous. My goal is always the same: to create images that feel honest, emotive, and uniquely you.
