Answering Your Questions About Newborn Lifestyle Photography in the Denver Metro Area
Chances are, if you had a baby more than 5 years ago, your newborn photography looked very different than what you might be seeing more of online these days.
In-home newborn sessions and newborn lifestyle photography may feel like uncharted waters to you, so I’m here to answer some of your most frequently asked questions about newborn lifestyle sessions.
What is newborn lifestyle photography, and what is the difference between newborn lifestyle photos and in-home newborn photography?
Newborn lifestyle photography is simply a term for more natural, unposed newborn photos. During a newborn lifestyle shoot, your photographer might ask you to hold your Baby as you normally would, or take photos of your baby in what they more typically might wear, and with a more natural background.
Newborn lifestyle photos can be done anywhere with a natural or simple backdrop! They can be taken outdoor, in a studio with a simple backdrop, or in-home.
This brings us to in-home newborn photography, which is simply newborn lifestyle photos that are taken in the home. Often, the photos feature the family cuddling around the house, or the baby sleeping in the nursery. Personally, my goal during an in-home newborn lifestyle session is to document what the first few days/weeks at home with Baby look and felt like.
What is the cost of in-home newborn photography?
In-home newborn photography can sometimes cost more than studio sessions, since the photographer is likely traveling to your home, and working with lighting that they have never worked with, which may create a bit more work for them during and after the photoshoot.
In Denver, it’s common for the most experienced in-home newborn photographers/specialists to charge in the range of $1,000-1,500. Some photographers with less experience in this category, or those who are newer to the business may charge less, especially as they build their portfolio and improve their technique.
What can I expect as a final product from a newborn lifestyle session?
Your gallery from a newborn lifestyle session (or in-home newborn session), will likely involve photos of the family interacting with Baby and less photos looking at the camera. There will still be individual images of Baby, too, but without props, backdrops, or formal wraps. Individual photos may include the baby sleeping on a bed or in a crib, or cuddled up on mom’s chest, for example. You can see a variety of examples here.
You can always ask your photographer for a sample gallery so you know what to expect!
