Photo Ideas to Save for your Newborn Session
Do you have a newborn photo session coming up? Get ready to screenshot and take notes. Here are four photos ideas that you’ll want to remember to add to your shot list.
Detail Shots
Don’t forget the details! This is the most common mistake I see when I peruse newborn galleries of friends or family. Photos of your baby’s hair, fingers, toes, dimples, lips, and ears will be so precious to you because these details change and grow SO fast. Sure, these might not end up being the photos you hang on the wall of your living room, but you’ll definitely want them in an album so you can look back and see just how much your baby has grown. 
Siblings & Pets
The way your other children and/or pets interact with Baby in those first few weeks is certainly a memory to be treasured. Don’t forget to ask your photographer to pay attention to these interactions and try to capture them in an authentic way. The way your toddler pets Baby’s head or the way your dog sniffs behind Baby’s ear are just a couple examples of those little interactions you won’t want to forget. 
Alternate Perspectives
It’s easy to forget about other perspectives when shooting a newborn session. Sometimes the focus is so much on the baby that part of the storytelling can be lost. Make sure your photographer is also getting photos that focus on you/your partner, siblings, or others persons or pets that help to tell a story about this short chapter of life. Not every photo has to have Baby in it – sometimes my favorite photos from the session are a unique perspective of the other people/emotions in the room.
Unique Lighting
Every home has it’s own unique lighting and style, and that should be taken advantage of when it comes to your in-home newborn session. In my opinion, it’s a bonus to find darker, shadowy space where you can choose to illuminate a certain feature of the Baby with dynamic light. It’s also fun to find a very bright, light space that gives a more clean, joyful vibe to a photo of Baby. By seeking out these different lighting options, your photographer can add variety and emotion to your newborn gallery.
